Rufus was born on February 21, 1849 in Ohio.⁽¹²⁴⁾ Rufus died on March 17, 1929 in Kokomo, Howard County, IN, at age 80.⁽¹²⁵⁾ Rufus was listed as a household member living with David Steele on the 1870 Census in Union Township, Miami County, IN.⁽¹²⁶⁾ Rufus was listed as the head of a family on the 1880 Census in Perrysburg, Miami County, IN.⁽¹²⁷⁾ Rufus was listed as the head of a family on the 1900 Census in Kokomo, Howard County, IN.⁽¹²⁸⁾ Rufus was employed at as a hardware business in Kokomo, Howard County, IN before 1929.⁽¹²⁹⁾

Sarah Rebecca McElwee and Rufus Pontious had the following children:

(Benjamin Franklin Hults is #4132.) Benjamin was born est 1890. Benjamin died on May 4, 1945 in Marion, Grant County, IN, at age 54.⁽¹³²⁾ Benjamin worked as a the grocery business in Marion, Grant County, IN before 1945.⁽¹³³⁾
