Fanny² Spaw (Christian¹) (#1432) was born in KY about 1820.⁽²³⁾ Her birhplace is listed as North Carolina in Samuel Berry's 1900 Census entry.⁽²⁴⁾ Fanny died on February 1, 1898 in Alto, Howard County, IN, at age 77.⁽²⁵⁾ Her body was interred in the Albright Cemetery an unmarked grave after February 2, 1898 in Kokomo, Howard County, IN.⁽²⁶⁾

She married Joshua W. Berry on April 4, 1836 in Rush County, IN.⁽²⁷⁾ (Joshua W. Berry is #771.) Joshua was born on October 10, 1811 - 1820 in NJ.⁽²⁸⁾ There is significant doubt about this birthdate. Census records give his calculated birth year as between 1816 and 1820. His obituary at his 1898 death as 96 years 27 days which gives a birth year of 1802. More likely his age at death was 86 years and that calculates to this reported birthdate. We will never really know. (Additional notes for Joshua W. Berry⁽²⁹⁾)

Joshua died on November 4, 1898 in Tipton County, IN, at age 87.⁽³⁰⁾ The place of death was listed as an unidentified son's home. This is likely to have been in Tipton County, IN; but may have been in Howard County, IN.

His body was interred in the Albright Cemetery in an unmarked grave on November 6, 1898 in Kokomo, Howard County, IN.⁽³¹⁾ Joshua was listed as the head of a family on the 1840 Census in Washington Township, Rush County, IN.⁽³²⁾ He bought property from U. S. Government on January 8, 1845 in Clinton County, IN.⁽³³⁾ He bought property from U. S. Government on March 2, 1848 in Clinton County, IN.⁽³⁴⁾ In the Census of 1850, Joshua was listed as a head of household in Washington Township, Rush County, IN.⁽³⁵⁾ He resided in Prairie Township, Tipton County, IN about 1860.⁽³⁶⁾ Joshua was listed as the head of a family on the 1860 Census in Washington Township, Rush County, IN.⁽³⁷⁾ In the Census of 1870, Joshua was listed as a head of household in Prairie Township, Tipton County, IN.⁽³⁸⁾ Joseph C. Berry is not listed in this census. However, a Josephine Berry is listed and is identified with a birthdate that corresponds to verified information on Joseph C. Berry. Since no other references to a Josephine Berry are associated with this family, this is likely to be an enumerator error including a misidentified sex.

In the 1880 Census, Joshua was listed as a head of household on June 10, 1880 in Prairie Township, Tipton County, IN.⁽³⁹⁾ He resided in Tipton County, IN before March 13, 1897.⁽⁴⁰⁾ Joshua was a defendant in a court case on March 13, 1897 in Indianapolis, Marion County, IN.⁽⁴¹⁾ The Supreme Court of Indiana ruled that in the cometancy guardianship hearing of Joshua W. Berry, brought by his son Thomas Jefferson Berry could be changed from Tipton County, IN the county of residency to Howard County, IN.

Fanny Spaw and Joshua W. Berry had the following children:

16 i. Mariah A.³ Berry (#1427) was born in IN ca 1838.⁽⁴²⁾ Mariah died after May 28, 1930 at age 91. She married Tine Winslow est 1859 in Rush County, IN.⁽⁴³⁾ (Tine Winslow is #1428.) Tine was born est 1835. Tine was listed as the head of a family on the 1860 Census in Howard County, IN.⁽⁴⁴⁾

She resided in Kokomo, Howard County, IN on May 28, 1930.⁽⁴⁵⁾

17 ii. GNU Berry (#1538) was born in IN ca 1838.⁽⁴⁶⁾ GNU died before 1850 at age unknown.

Berry (#1532) was born in Rush County, IN on September 26, 1844.⁽⁴⁷⁾ Her birthdate is calculated from her death date of November 7, 1880⁽⁴⁸⁾ and an age at death of 36Y, 1M & 11D" Mary died on November 7, 1880 in Howard County, IN, at age 36.⁽⁴⁹⁾ Her body was interred in the Randolph Cemetery after November 7, 1880 in Taylor Township, Howard County, IN.⁽⁵⁰⁾ The gravestone reads: "Mary A.; died Nov 7, 1880; aged 36Y, 1M, 11D" She married Andrew Salsbury on September 8, 1861 in Tipton County, IN.⁽⁵¹⁾ (Andrew Salsbury is #1544.)

Andrew was born est 1837.

Sarah Jane Berry (#1531) was born in Rush County, IN on April 3, 1845.⁽⁵²⁾ Her birthdate was calculated from a death date of June 21, 1862⁽⁵³⁾ and an age at death of 17Y, 2M & 18D" Sarah died on June 21, 1862 in Tipton County, IN, at age 17.⁽⁵⁴⁾ Her body was interred in the Randolph Cemetery after June 21, 1862 in Taylor Township, Howard County, IN.⁽⁵⁵⁾ The gravestone reads: "Sarah Jane; daut of J. W. & F. Berry; died June 21, 1862; aged 17Y, 2M & 18D"
